The president of the Russian Federation opened a new section of the M-12 highway "Telematika’s" Artificial Intelligence transforms the "Dyurtyuli – Achit" highway into a smart transportation artery
On July 16, 2025, the Dyurtyuli – Achit Highway was opened for traffic. The Dyurtyuli – Achit Highway is a part of the M-12 Vostok Highway, which is the longest toll road in the world and uses Free Flow. Equipped with Telematika Corporation’s artificial intelligence and computer vision, the new highway has transformed the road into a high-tech digital artery, which upholds the global standard for mobility, safety, and environmental sustainability of the highways of Avtodor State Corporation. The technical operation of “smart” systems on the newly opened highway is provided by General Operator.
The M-12 Highway was already an important part of the Russian transportation network, and its further expansion will open new possibilities for the country’s economy. This project will not only improve the connectedness of the largest cities in Russia, but will also set the bar for all roads thanks to its technological infrastructure.
One of the key “smart” solutions on the M-12 Highway, including the new Dyurtyuli – Achit section, is the Free Flow tolling system. This technology permits drivers to travel on the toll section without stopping and reducing speed. With the help of cameras and computer vision algorithms, the system automatically detects the number, make, and class of the vehicle and creates a payment invoice. This increases the carrying capacity of the road, reduces the risk of accidents, and reduces carbon dioxide emissions.
Round-the-clock safety is ensured by an automated traffic control system (ATCS). More than 550 cameras, transportation sensors, and weather stations analyze the road conditions in real time and warn drivers in advance of the need to switch lanes or reduce speed in the event of a change in weather, construction, or the onset of various incidents.
General Operator ensures the uninterrupted operation of all the digital services, such that each kilometer of the highway is a standard of “smart” infrastructure. General Operator was named the technical operator of the intelligent transportation systems on the new highway section through 2048.
“The M-12 Highway, including the new Dyurtyuli – Achit section, is not merely a road, but rather a part of a digital infrastructure that is changing the Russian transportation industry. Telematika Corporation’s technologies is a full-fledged digital foundation for a single network of “smart” roads, on which the country’s new economy of mobility is being built. These technologies have already become an integral part of ensuring comfort and safety on Russian toll roads. Free Flow makes trips quicker and more comfortable.
