Pulkovo interchange on the M-11 Highway opens with Free Flow

On December 24th, a new transportation interchange was opened for traffic, and the interchange provides a direct and high-speed entrance to Pulkovo Airport from the federal M-11 Neva Highway.
The new road begins at the 681 kilometer marker on the M-11 Neva Highway, which traverses through the intersection with Pulkovo Highway and directly leads to the airport terminals.
The new toll section of the M-11 Highway operates using Free Flow tolling system, which was developed and implemented by Telematika Corporation. The technology enables paying tolls without stopping or reducing speed. Specialized gantries are installed over the roadways with sensors and cameras, which identify license plates and automatically process tolls. This approach increases the transportation capacity of the roads, reduces the risk of traffic jams, and make trips more comfortable. The barrier free tolling system at the Pulkovo Interchange enables reducing the high average speed during highly intensive traffic and ensures maximum transportation mobility at the entrance to the airport.
The opening of the Pulkovo Interchange was an important stage in the development of the region’s transportation infrastructure and serves as a dramatic example of the effective implementation of digital solutions where they have the maximum impact—specifically in high-traffic areas demanding enhanced speed and uninterrupted flow.
To increase traffic safety and manageability, Telematika equipped the interchange with a new automated traffic control system. It monitors the transportation situation in real time and transfers information to drivers, road services, and emergency responders, thereby making it possible to timely react to changes in the conditions.
The total length of the connecting road and all of the exits at the intersection of the M-11 Neva Highway and Pulkovo Highway is 5.5 kilometers.
